The aim was not to arrive first
After psychometric and medical selection, I joined the 70th intake of volunteer officer cadets at the French National Gendarmerie Officers' Academy in Melun.
The story
For three months, training alternated between field work and professional subjects: sport, marches, navigation, topography, telecommunications, law, firearms training and community life.
During marches, the expectation was not for one person to arrive first. The whole intake had to arrive together. Stronger members adjusted their pace, supported others and sometimes carried an additional pack.
I completed the training through its final class. The remaining postings were not compatible with my personal circumstances, so I chose not to continue. Finishing something also means facing reality and making a considered decision.
What I take from it
Keep moving, hold your role and make sure the group progresses with you.
